International Students Celebrate Harvest Festival with Local Indigenous and Enjoyed Speaking Chinese
For international students to learn Chinese in a more interesting way, the Ministry of Education and Tzu Chi University worked with Hualien County Government and local indigenous tribes to sponsor a program of “Celebrating Harvest Festival and enjoying speaking Chinese” on July 23 & 24 in Hualien. Around 100 international students took part in this event, they experienced how Taiwan’s indigenous people celebrate this festival, and sang and danced vigorously together with the indigenous friends.
為使來台學華語的學生感受不同的學習樂趣,教育部與慈濟大學配合花蓮縣政府原住民族聯合豐年節活動,7月23日、24日在花蓮舉辦「2016慶豐年,樂活用華語」活動,吸引了近百名華語生及學位生,體驗台灣原住民節慶文化,共舞高歌慶豐年。
The Amis, Truku, Bunun, Kavalan, Sakizaya and Seediq are the main indigenous tribes in Hualien County. Each tribe has its rich, unique language and culture. These tribes celebrate their annual Harvest Festival from mid-July to September, and they sing and dance to express their gratitude to ancestral spirits and Mother Earth, and also convey their wishes to live harmoniously with nature.
花蓮有阿美族、太魯閣族、布農族、噶瑪蘭族、撒奇萊雅族及賽德克族等6大原住民族群豐富獨特的語言文化,每年7月中旬至9月期間的豐年祭,各族人們透過歌唱舞蹈,表達對祖靈及大地的感謝,傳達與大自然共存共榮,和諧共生的理念。
The international students are originally from Australia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Panama, Poland, Thailand, the United States of America, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Saint Lucia and France, and they are studying at 16 universities or colleges in Taiwan.
這次活動有全國16所大專校院來自澳洲、德國、印度、印尼、日本、巴拿馬、波蘭、泰國、美國、烏茲別克、越南、聖露西亞、法國等17個不同國家的華語生及學位生參加。
This event started on July 23 at 4:30 p.m. For international students to be more familiar with what was going on, teachers taught them simple Chinese words and indigenous expressions, and showed them videos to introduce indigenous cultures and customs. The Center for Language Studies, Tzu Chi University arranged interesting games for the students, such as “looking for the right item,” “what is wrong with this picture,” “making handicrafts,” “completing sentences,” “giving a gift from my heart,” “I am a reporter,” and “be seeing you again.” All participants were required to form groups to take part in the games, and every team had to go through all the games.
他們7月23日下午4時30分開始,先在集合地點教授基礎華語文句子、簡易的原住民語及觀賞原住民文化習俗影片,慈濟大學華語中心更與現場攤位合作,安排了一連串有趣又好玩的闖關活動,如「讀文尋物」、「看圖找碴」、「簡易手工藝品製作」、「拼字成句」、「禮輕情意重」、「我是大記者」及「有緣來相會」,讓參與的學生手持學習護照組隊闖關,完成各攤位任務後才算過關。
On July 24, while on the way to Mu Ku Mu Yu Tribal Village, teachers from TCU’s Language Center shared several indigenous children’s songs and simple greetings on the bus, and students really enjoyed singing indigenous’ songs after dancing with around 1,000 people the previous night.
第二天7月24日安排參訪慕谷慕魚部落的路途上,由慈濟大學華語教師教唱幾首簡易的原住民兒歌,及教授簡易原住民問候語,經過前一晚的千人大會舞,大家唱起來特別有意思。
At Mu Ku Mu Yu Tribal Village, five courses were provided by indigenous teachers and TCU teachers. These courses were “Hana weaving,” “traditional archery of the indigenous warrior,” “the history of knife-making,” “hiking trails in the tribal area” and “the ecosystem of Emerald Valley.” Through experiencing things firsthand, the students gained more knowledge about indigenous culture and their daily lives.
到了慕谷慕魚原住民部落,則由當地原民講師、慈濟大學語言教學中心華語教師群共同教授「哈娜編織」、「原民勇士射箭」、「部落耆老介紹銅門刀製作歷史」、「原民部落古隧道健行」及「翡翠谷自然生態」 等5項不同主題課程,以分組的方式,讓參與的學生們實際體驗操作,在做中學,學中做的過程中,瞭解原住民文化和生活,不僅如此,更直接帶領外國朋友走進部落,親近與體驗原民部落生活。
