Lin Cheng-Sheng, New Artist-in-Resident 林正盛導演擔任104學年駐校藝術家

Director Lin Cheng-Sheng has been invited by TCU as the 2016 artist-in-residence. “A Drifting Life”, Lin Cheng-Sheng’s first directed movie, was awarded a silver medal in the young cinema competition of the Tokyo Film Festival. In 2001, his strike again with “Betelnut Beauty” that earned him a silver bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. Director Lin will be teaching “Screenwriting” at TCU every Tuesday, and hold two talks and one movie appreciation discussion this May.
慈濟大學邀請林正盛導演擔任104學年駐校藝術家，1997年林正盛導演執導的第一部電影《春花夢露》獲得東京影展「青年獎」。2001年更以「愛你愛我」獲得第51屆柏林影展銀熊導演獎，林正盛導演每周二在慈大教授電影編劇課程，同時將於五月進行二場講座和一場電影欣賞暨座談。

Today TCU faculty and students, including Vice President Hsu Mu-Tsu, Director of the Center for General Education Chiang Yun-Chih, and Chief Secretary Lin Sheng-Chieh, arranged a welcoming party for the director. Vice President Hsu points out, department of medicine, or any other departments, could never depart from humanistic care, and Director Lin’s work is saturated with the same humanistic quality.
今天慈濟大學邀請師生為林正盛導演舉辦歡迎茶會，包括有許木柱副校長，通識教育中主任江允智以及主任秘書林聖傑等人出席參加。許木柱副校長表示，不管是醫學系或其他科系，都不離開人本關懷，而林正盛導演的作品具有濃厚的人文藝術，希望同學把握機會好好向林導演學習。

Every year, TCU invites an artist to participate in a semester-long resident artist program. Beginning from the 2013 academic year, artists such as photographer Juan I-Chung and stand-up comedian Feng Yi-Kang were invited for residency. A brief survey indicates that students are most fascinated with dance and movie, Dir. Chiang said, by inviting artists from various fields could engage our students in art and aesthetics in a diverse manner.
慈濟大學駐校藝術家每年邀請師生心目中喜愛的藝術家，駐校一學期的教學。自102學年開始，邀請的藝術家包括有阮義忠老師，馮翊綱老師等。通識教育中心主任江允智表示，經過學生的調查，大家最有興趣的是舞蹈和電影，藉由邀請不同領域的藝術家，讓同學有更多元的方式接觸美學和藝術。

“Truth, is most captivating!” Said Director Lin. With several movies under his belt, Director Lin extended his reach into documentary in the past few years. “Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars” in 2010 that featured four children with autism, and “One Journey, One Mission” in 2015 about the grand overseas tours of six youth. While most audiences thought that Director Lin started his career as a movie director, in fact, he only directed his first movie after shooting a documentary. Shooting documentary, Lin believes, taught him how to observe people, a skill which helped him tremendously in his movie career.
“Doesn’t matter if it is a movie or a documentary, it is always about bringing reality to the audience,” said Director Lin. “Movies shape fictional characters from scripts into real flesh and blood, and documentary document real life as it is. The power of truth resonates within every audience, reaching deep into their hearts.”
「真實的力量最動人！」林正盛導演說，拍過許多電影，林正盛導演這幾年也拍攝紀錄片，例如2010年「一閃一閃亮晶晶、以4個自閉症男童作主角和2015「有任務的旅行」紀錄六位年輕人到國外壯遊的故事。大家都以為林導演是電影起家，不過林正盛導演卻表示，其實他是先拍紀錄片後才有第一部電影創作，而他覺得紀錄片培養了他如何觀察人，對於拍電影有很大的幫助。林導演認為不管是電影還是紀錄片，就是要讓觀眾感受到真實的力量，電影是要把編劇裡的人物變成真實的，而紀錄片更是要如實紀錄被拍攝的人，真實的力量會讓觀眾產生共鳴，觸動到觀眾的心。

Shen Fu-Hsiang, a student in the department of child development and family studies who enrolled in Director Lin’s screenwriting class, chose the class to understand how to write a good script, so he could prepare for the play of his graduation production. “Screenwriting is a skill that should be available to all professions, not just movie related ones,” Shen said. “Screenwriting has taught me creative ways to articulate my thoughts, a skill that can be applied to my future professions.”
選修「電影編劇」的兒童發展與家庭教育學系的沈福祥同學表示，因為兒家系有畢業製作公演，所以想要多了解如何寫劇本，而他覺得不一定是電影人才要學編劇，編劇可以學習如何表達自己的想法，將來應用在自己的專業上。

Director Lin has been teaching in universities for the past few years. “People tend to become more compassionate when they reach certain age, hoping to pass on their knowledge to others,” he said. He encourages the students when writing scripts to learn about themselves first, for “many people thought they knew themselves well, but it turns out they do not”. “Finding your own stories, elaborate from your life and emotions, and eventually learn to complete a movie script,” Director Lin concluded.
林正盛導演這幾年也在其他大學教書，林導演說：「人到了一定年紀會變得愈來愈慈祥，想要把自己知道的傳承給大家。」林導演建議學生們，寫劇本可以先從了解自我開始，很多人以為自己很了解自己，其實不一定，尋找自己的故事，再慢慢從生活，感情等延伸，學習完成一個電影劇本。
